NVH
Brake Noise, Vibration and Harshness are symptoms of the same problem, the friction between stationary brake caliper/pads and rotating rotors.
To measure noisy brake stops and NVH, the piston cushion was put though many tests, including the SAE standard J2521 Noise Test.
SAE Standard J2521 Noise Test This is the automotive industry standard test. It consists of 1430 stops at various pressures, velocities, and temperatures. A noisy stop is considered any stop having a greater than 70dB noise rating.
The chart on the left shows two comparative SAE J2521 Noise Test for a Honda Brake Application. The test was run once without NU-LOK Piston Cushion and again with NU-LOK Piston Cushion. In each case, the number of noisy stops was tracked and charted.
After 1,430 stops, NU-LOK Piston Cushion reduced the number of noisy stops by over 90%.

Similar testing on a Ford showed NU-LOK Piston Cushion to reduce the number of noisy stops by about 70%.

Heat Transfer
Another source of costly comebacks is brake fade. Heat transferred to the brake fluid can affect the ability of the fluid to compress properly, and when that happens, drivers may experience brake fade. Then they come to you.
To prove Piston Cushion’s ability to reduce heat transfer, Nucap did multiple High Fade Tests on the NU-LOK Piston Cushion.
The purpose of the tests was to determine how fast brake fluid temperature would increase from ambient temperature to 33° and 36°C – and what effect Piston Cushion had on that time.
